Prepare your child for writing alphabet letters such as capital letters M and W with the nineth set in our free prewriting worksheets series: Left Diagonal Lines!
This set of free prewriting worksheets featuring left diagonal lines is the nineth set in an extensive prewriting series! If you’re just getting started with prewriting, be sure to check out the first set in our series here. (This set also includes guides on “Pencil Safety” and “How to Hold a Pencil.”)
About These Prewriting Worksheets
Your child has just recently been introduced to right diagonal lines.
In this set we’re tackling the opposite: left diagonal lines, one of the strokes in capital letters M and W!
First, students will be expected to trace these new lines in their own individual boxes. Then they will find and trace them in the form of pictures. Finally, they will shift from tracing left diagonal lines to drawing them in a connect-the-dots type fashion.
What is Prewriting Anyway?
In early prewriting, a child will develop the skills needed for writing, such as learning how to hold a pencil, how to use a pencil, and how to make individual shapes and strokes.
Why is Prewriting Important?
Prewriting provides the exposure to writing before writing actually begins.
It provides a step-by-step approach to writing that helps first-time writers build confidence, rather than overwhelm.
Each stroke is mastered one at a time, setting children up for success as they prepare for the strokes they’ll encounter in handwriting.
