About These Prewriting Worksheets
In the previous set, vertical and horizontal lines started coming together for the very first time, forming the cross/plus sign. This teaches a child to make the quick mental and physical switch between the two lines.
This new prewriting set delves deeper into the cross/plus sign, continuing to practice tracing this new sign. It also introduces drawing the cross/plus sign for the first time. Your child will be expected to connect two dots to make a vertical line and two dots to make a horizontal line.
Throughout this exercise, it will be really important for you to do a few of these as examples for your child, as well as observe him/her as he/she connects the dots. Make sure your child is starting at the top and going down and then starting at the left and going to the right.
Your young learner will probably need a good deal of practice doing this, and that’s okay! Just keep lifting him/her up!
What is Prewriting Anyway?
For a child who has never learned to write, prewriting involves developing skills such as learning how to hold a pencil, how to use a pencil, and how to master individual shapes and strokes before writing complex alphabet letters.
Why is Prewriting Important?
Prewriting introduces your child to the world of writing with a low-stress, step-by-step approach. Rather than abruptly beginning to write the English alphabet, prewriting gradually builds upon the foundation of alphabet letters, stroke by stroke in a strategic manner.
