This set of free prewriting worksheets featuring the triangle is the thirteenth set in an extensive prewriting series! If you’re just getting started with prewriting, be sure to check out the first set in our series here. (This set also includes guides on “Pencil Safety” and “How to Hold a Pencil.”)

About These Prewriting Worksheets

Your child has mastered diagonal lines in the X shape, and now we’re adding a horizontal line to the mix!

The triangle is one of the 9 prewriting strokes/shapes your child will be expected to master in the world of prewriting. Not only can it aid in forming letters like A and W, but it also helps children continue to see different types of strokes coming together to form letters.

In this set of worksheets, students will be learning how to trace the triangle, stroke by stroke. The first three worksheets break this shape down into bite-sized pieces, and the last two worksheets bring the whole shape together.

What is Prewriting Anyway?

For a young learner, prewriting is the process of developing the skills needed for writing, such as learning how to hold a pencil, how to use a pencil, and how to make individual shapes and strokes.

Why is Prewriting Important?

Prewriting is a master at building confidence.

It provides a step-by-step approach to writing that helps first-time writers tackle different shapes/strokes, one at a time.

By gradually introducing each stroke, children are given the gift of preparation before encountering the multiple, combined strokes in each letter of handwriting.
